Do you live your day for where you are now or where you would like to be?
Are you hoping for different results whilst doing things in exactly the same way every single day?
What we often don’t realise is that we are keeping ourselves stuck!
We think and act in the same limited and negative patterns without ever really noticing what we’re doing.
We might be in a job we dislike which makes us feel really negative and tired, so we don’t feel like we have the energy to look for something else, also we may not have the skills so why bother anyway?
What is actually happening here is that we’re not thinking around the problem and we’re keeping ourselves where we feel safe and things feel familiar. You see, without a sufficient amount of motivation to change, our brain will just create excuses about why it’s too difficult and it’s a waste of our time as we wouldn’t like the new job anyway.
Our brains don’t like having to work in a way that’s different from the routine, anything out of the ordinary is seen as a threat! This harks back to when being aware of danger was essential for our survival.
What can we do to actually combat this and move forwards?
We need to be firm with ourselves and start planning how we want things to be different and where we’d like to be. Think outside the box you’re currently in.
Maybe if you need to upskill, then look into ways to change that and what course you could take to expand your skill set. Or if you’re finding the thought of applying for another job daunting then research what you’re interested in and how to talk knowledgeably about your new subject.
Once you give yourself clear and filled out achievable ideas and steps that you can take to get there, then you’re much more likely to see yourself making progress towards that end goal and maybe change isn’t so bad after all!
